Former UN Assistant Secretary-General and Former Director General - African Risk Capacity Group
Ibrahima Cheikh Diong is a distinguished leader with over three decades of experience in development finance, climate finance, disaster risk management, investment promotion, private sector development, infrastructure development, and international development. He served as the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Group Director General of the African Risk Capacity (ARC), a specialised agency of the African Union (AU) focused on enhancing African governments' capacity to manage extreme weather events and natural disasters. Under his leadership, ARC has significantly strengthened disaster risk management and financing across Africa, providing innovative insurance solutions and technical assistance to member states.
Prior to ARC, Ibrahima held senior positions at the World Bank, where he played a pivotal role in shaping policies and strategies to foster economic development, private sector development, and financial stability in African nations. He also served in various governmental and diplomatic capacities in Senegal, including Chairman of the Board of Senegal Airlines, Ambassador at Large, Director General of International Cooperation, Permanent Secretary of Energy, Minister, and Special Adviser to the President.
