Global Africa Business Initiative rolls out ‘What Makes Africa Unstoppable’ Digital Stories Campaign
05 Aug 2025

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 1 August 2025 – The Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) has launched "What Makes Africa Unstoppable," a digital campaign celebrating Africa’s resilience, creativity, and growth. The campaign is built on a peer-nomination model that invites individuals and organizations to identify impactful voices and initiatives across Africa and its global diaspora. Entrepreneurs, youth leaders, business executives and international partners are among those spotlighted for their contributions to Africa’s new narrative.
What Makes Africa Unstoppable is a bold, crowd-sourced social media campaign that celebrates the ingenuity, resilience and spirit driving Africa forward. Designed to spark meaningful engagement in the lead-up to GABI’s Unstoppable Africa 2025 flagship event, the campaign mobilizes authentic stories, shared by real people making a real impact.

By amplifying voices that inspire, the campaign aims to spark a wave of organic, high-impact momentum across multiple digital platforms. The initiative will deliver powerful stories, from digital innovation to community-driven change, that are shaping the continent’s future.
“This campaign is about spotlighting the individuals driving a new narrative about Africa’s economic potential and growth,” said Dan Thomas, Chief of Communications at the UN Global Compact which coordinates GABI. “It’s about lifting credible voices that reflect Africa’s resilience, innovation and drive. From entrepreneurs shaping digital solutions, to farmers improving local food systems, to leaders expanding access to health and education. By highlighting and sharing their stories, we aim to showcase the continent’s progress in action and build meaningful momentum ahead of our flagship event Unstoppable Africa 2025.”
The launch comes as GABI prepares for its annual Unstoppable Africa event, taking place 21–22 September 2025 in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The conference will bring together African heads of state, global CEOs, investors and UN partners to accelerate action across key sectors, including renewable energy, intra-African trade, digital transformation, and food systems.
Now in its fourth year, GABI promotes strategic investment, innovation, and sustainable development across Africa. Since the last Unstoppable Africa convening, measurable progress has been recorded across eight priority areas: Energy, Trade, Digital Transformation, Food Systems, Education, Health Systems, the Creative Economy, and Sport.
Africa is home to rapid economic growth, an expanding digital ecosystem, with over 570 million people now online, and the world’s youngest population. Through initiatives like What Makes Africa Unstoppable, GABI continues to shape a forward-looking narrative for the region and connect local solutions to global partnerships.
Participation in the campaign is open to all. Videos may be submitted online with #UnstoppableAfrica and tagging @GlobalAfricaBiz. Selected videos and stories will be featured on GABI and UN Global Compact platforms in the lead-up to the September summit.
