Igor van den Essen

Igor van den Essen was appointed Regional Managing Director for the Africa and Europe Region and part of the management team in July 2022.

During his career, Igor has held a number of leadership positions in HR, Labor Relations and (General) Management. A career of almost 30 years has taken him all over the world – from China to Denmark and from Qatar to the Netherlands – and across some of the world’s biggest companies, including Philips and Maersk. In 2016, Igor joined APM Terminals as Head of HR and Labour Relations. In 2019, he was appointed as Head of Terminals in Europe.

In July 2022, Igor was appointed Regional Managing Director for the Africa & Europe region and part of APM Terminals’ global management team. His strong experience in HR helps him to lift standards of excellence in the region, which includes 11 ports and terminals in the Africa and 13 ports and terminals in the Europe region. As Regional Managing Director, Igor is responsible for managing this portfolio commercially and operationally – lifting standards for customers, governments, partners and our people in the region.
